Mana Pools ('four pools')
The four large permanent pools, flanked by forests of mahogany, wild figs, ebonies and baobabs, were formed by the meanderings of the middle Zambezi river. This makes Mana an animal rich environment with excellent game viewing. A UNESCO world heritage site, Mana Pools us one of Africa's most famous parks. Other Mana highlights that deserve a visit are Chitake Springs and the sacred baobabs in the south of Mana Pools. |

Hwange (after Chief Wange)
Known around the world, this 14 000 sq km area is Zimbabwe's largest National Park. It was proclaimed in 1929 and offers the most diverse range of mammal species in the country. The heart of the park, seasonally dry, is watered by underground wells that supplement natural pans with water. These pans attract many animals, including large concentrations of elephant and buffalo. Predator sightings are also common. Vegetation varies from Mopane woodland and petrified forests to arid kalahari-sand veld with desert-like flora. |

Matobo ('the bald ones')
A sea of granite whale backs and balancing rocks, the Matobo National Park is steeped in Zimbabwe's history: from the Stone Age bushmen (San), who left their mark with stunning cave paintings, to the nineteenth century Matabele people. The area, entrusted to the country by Cecil Rhodes, incorporates a national park, which features black (hook-lipped) and white (square-lipped) rhino. |
